Diagnosis: Weird. Woven wrong, or written right?

Person wearing glasses in front of a bookshelf.

I’m Autistic. That comes first in my life, and in the stories I tell.

My YA Speculative, Contemporary, Urban Fantasy is rooted in truth and trauma—

and woven with the threads we’re taught to cut loose.

As Cultural and Social Historian, I’ve spent decades uncovering the erased, the overlooked, and other

marginalized stories—particularly those of 19th-century borderland communities in upstate New York

and ADOS (American Descendants of Slavery) lineages in the Deep South.

My lived experiences inform both my scholarship and my fiction.

My debut novel, Finding Emory, blends urban fantasy with psychological realism, centering a neurodivergent teen

navigating identity, legacy, and survival in a world that would rather erase her than understand her.

I write stories for the silenced and the strange—those who didn’t fit the prophecy, weren’t chosen for the spotlight,

and were too afraid of owls to look for a letter.

When I’m not writing, or researching the bloodlines of the forgotten, I’m usually:

Standing barefoot in a room wondering why I’m in there…

Growing vegetables I won’t eat…

Turning sensory tools into Wyndecal relics…

I live in the North Country with my boys and dogs (I have three of each!)

Jackson the old man; Harrison (he’s just a baby)

and…

Lola the Service Pibble—a rescue pit bull with scars, attitude, and her own social media accounts.

Disability Awareness

Frequently asked questions…

What kind of disability do you have?

How Autistic are you?

Things I hear too much…

You don’t look disabled.

You don’t act Autistic.

Things I will share….

I am Autistic with ADHD. Unapologetically.

I have genetic Otosclerosis and trauma sensorineural hearing loss (deaf).

I was injured and developed CRPS (RSD type I).

Things I won’t…

What “level” of Autism I have.

Those levels are arbitrary and simply don’t work.

Just because I am able to handle some situations doesn’t mean I don’t have support needs in other areas.

We need to do better.
